Activities, Joint Collaborative Projects, and Consultancy Activities within
Departments, Industries, and Academic Institutes
- Faculty members and students are encouraged
to actively participate in research activities to enhance their technical
skills and expand their knowledge base.
- The faculty should engage in joint
collaborative projects and provide consultancy services within their area
of expertise.
- Faculties should identify suitable industries
and approach them with well-defined research proposals, ensuring the
establishment of proper non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
- The faculty should establish networks with
institutes and industries to identify potential partners for collaborative
research endeavors.
- In collaborative work, the institute should
prioritize signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or agreement that
clearly outlines the terms and conditions for conducting the work.
- For consultancy activities, relevant
departments or investigators with expertise in the required area should be
assigned the tasks.
- Strict adherence to the terms specified in
the MOU is essential to minimize and avoid any potential litigation,
liability, or conflicts of interest involving the faculty and the
institute.
- The institute's research and development
(R&D) facilities and resources, including infrastructure, instruments,
laboratories, and libraries, should be utilized effectively to maximize
the generated output.
- The MOU or agreement should ensure clarity
and transparency regarding the ownership of inventions produced through
collaborative programs.
- Faculty members should be encouraged to serve
as guides and co-guides to monitor research activities effectively.
- The R&D cell should provide assistance
and guidance to the faculty in submitting research projects to various
funding bodies for research grants.
- Regular in-house training activities should
be conducted to offer opportunities for faculty and students to upgrade
their skills.
- Ethical practices, as per the guidelines of
CPCSEA and OECD, must be followed during the conduct of animal
experiments.
- Each faculty member supervising M. Pharm
students' dissertation work should publish at least one research paper in
reputable national or international journals.
- In the case of faculty members guiding PhD
students, they should ensure that each student publishes a minimum of two
research papers in well-cited national or international journals.
- The faculty should be encouraged to undertake
research projects that emphasize interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary
approaches.
- The R&D cell should arrange workshops,
conferences, and training sessions to complement academic and research
activities. Faculty members should actively participate and present their
research findings in various national and international workshops and
conferences.
- If the research output is patentable, the
institute will provide necessary assistance in filing intellectual
property (IP).
- Such IP rights should be channeled through
the institute, unless individual filing is allowed with prior permission
from the relevant authorities. Clarity and transparency should be
maintained throughout the process.
- Efforts should be made to foster a scientific
temperament and cultivate a research culture and aptitude among students
through activities such as motivating them to undertake research projects
with commercial applications, facilitating training and research work in
pharmaceutical industries, and encouraging participation and presentation
of their research work in competitions and conferences.
Guidelines
for the implementation of funded research projects are as follows:
Ø Separate
Bank Account: The institute has set up a dedicated bank account to facilitate
the smooth conduct of research work funded by various bodies such as DBATU,
AICTE, and industries.
Ø Academic
and Research Coordinator (ARC): For projects sanctioned through DBATU, Academic
and Research Coordinator (ARC) is appointed. The ARC's role is to ensure the
seamless implementation of the project and coordinate with relevant
stakeholders.
Ø Submission
of Requirements: The Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-investigators are
required to submit their requirements for sanction/purchases to the
institutional stores. This includes laboratory chemicals, consumables,
instruments, and other necessary items.
Ø Autonomy
for Principal Investigators: The institutes provide autonomy to the Principal
Investigators, allowing them to utilize the contingency amount for procuring
suitable items necessary for carrying out the research work.
Ø Coordinating
Grants: The ARC is responsible for coordinating with various funding bodies to
ensure timely release of grants to initiate and sustain the project.
Ø Timely
Reporting: The PI and Co-investigators should submit periodic reports on the
progress of the research work, along with audited statements of expenditure, as
required by the sanctioning body.
Ø Final
Report and Utilization Certificate: Upon completion of the research project,
the PI and Co-investigators must submit a final report detailing the work
completed, along with a utilization certificate, to the funding authorities.
Ø Institute
Support: The institute provides support to the PI by offering facilities and
resources, including infrastructure, instruments, and library access. This
support aims to maximize the output generated from the research project.
These
guidelines aim to ensure effective utilization of funds, smooth implementation
of research projects, and accountability in reporting and documentation.
Guidelines
to check malpractices and plagiarism in research
By implementing
these guidelines, institutes can effectively monitor and address malpractices
and plagiarism in research, ensuring the production of high-quality and
original scholarly work.
- The research work conducted by undergraduate,
postgraduate, and doctoral students within the institute must be
diligently monitored by their assigned research guides to ensure integrity
and adherence to ethical standards.
- The Research and Development (R&D)
committee should periodically oversee the progress of research projects,
providing necessary guidance and intervention when deemed necessary.
- In the case of doctoral research, research
guides are required to submit a synopsis copy to the PhD review committee
for thorough examination of the thesis's eligibility before it is
submitted to the SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University).
- It is mandatory for both research students
and guides to provide a certificate stating that the work conducted is
original, and all references and contributions from other sources have
been appropriately acknowledged.
- Prior to submission, the research work or PhD
thesis should undergo a rigorous plagiarism check in accordance with the
guidelines set forth by SPPU. This step ensures that the submitted work is
free from any unauthorized use of intellectual property and maintains
academic integrity.
Guidelines
for PhD scholars
- The research scholars registered for a Ph.D.
at the center must strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth by DBATU.
- Research scholars are required to carry out
their research work diligently and report their progress to their
respective guides at specified intervals.
- It is mandatory for research scholars to
submit progress reports at specified intervals, which will then be
forwarded to DBATU for evaluation and record-keeping.
- Research scholars must comply with the norms
and regulations of the institute to avoid any disciplinary action. This
includes following academic and ethical guidelines set by the institution.
- During the conduct of experiments at the
institute, research scholars are expected to adhere to Good Laboratory
Practices (GLP). These practices ensure the integrity, accuracy, and
reliability of the experimental data.
- Prior to submitting their thesis synopsis to DBATU,
research scholars should aim to publish a minimum of two research papers
in recognized national or international journals. The journals should have
appropriate citations and recognition in the academic community.
- The research work carried out by scholars
should be original, and any references or contributions from others should
be duly acknowledged. Proper citation and acknowledgment of previous works
or collaborations are essential to maintain academic integrity.
- Before submitting their research work, Ph.D.
thesis, or research papers for publication, scholars are required to check
for any instances of plagiarism as per DBATU guidelines. Plagiarism
detection tools can be used to identify and eliminate any instances of
copied content.
- The plagiarism report, certifying the absence
of plagiarism, should be endorsed by the research scholar's guide or
supervisor prior to submission. This ensures the authenticity and
originality of the research work.
- In cases where intellectual property (IP) is
generated through the research work, the rights and ownership of the IP
should be routed through the institute. Any alternative provisions
regarding IP ownership should be executed with prior permission from the
relevant authorities. Clarity and transparency in IP management should be
maintained throughout the process.
